Maltese Breed History.
The Maltese dogs is believed to be the oldest Europe breed. Art objects dating back 3,200 years bear likenesses of the dainty little dogs.. The Maltese is one of the oldest breeds. Statues resembling the Maltese have been found in the Egyptian tombs of the 13th century BC.  The Maltese is thought to be named for the Mediterranean isle of Malta.
It was also well known in Britain at the time of Elizabeth I (1558-1603).
