Sphynx cat
The Sphynx (aka Canadian Hairless) is a rare breed of cat with extremely little fur, or at most a short fuzz over its body, and no whiskers (vibrissae).
History: The history of the Sphynx supposedly goes back hundreds of years to the Aztec people in Central America, the Pueblo Indians in Albuquerque. New Mexico gifted the last surviving pair of this Mexican breed to an American couple. The male cat was later killed by a pack of wild dogs and this old breed of cat was ended. When a regular shorthaired black and white cat had a litter of kittens, one of the kittens was a hairless male. A breeder bought the mother and son and started a breeding program in 1966 in Toronto, Canada.
Appearance: This is a substantial cat, medium sized and strong, with adult males being larger than adult females. Sphynx have sturdy boning and good muscle development. The ears are very large, broad down and sharpen up. The legs are long.  The head of this medium sized cat resembles that of a Rex although there is no genetic relation. The nose is short and the nose leather reflects the colour of the body. The Sphynx Cat coat is not precisely hairless. These cats do have a fine suede-like coat that is soft and warm to the touch. There may be areas of fur on the tip of tail, above the brown or around the toes. The Sphynx Cats coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. These colors include black, blue, red, white, lavender, cinnamon, cream, chocolate, fawn, blue-cream, lavender-cream, fawn-cream, sable, champagne and platinum.
Size: Weight between 3.5 - 7kgs.
Temperament: Today’s Sphynx cats are highly affectionate, loving, intelligent and sociable. They get along well with other animals in the household. The Sphynx are extremely inquisitive and love to be the center of attention. They prefer human attention but enjoy the company of dogs and other cats. They have an abundance of energy and mischief and are always with you, on you or showing off for you.
Health: Special item is whether Sphynxs are hypoallergenic. The Sphynx may suit for those who suffer from the allergy caused by animal hair. But some people suffer from the allergy caused by skin cells, that sphynxs do produce, so they are not suit those people.
Life expectancy: 9 - 15 years.
The Spyhnx lives for about fourteen years.
Grooming: It is not very hard to keep Sphynxs well, but their maintenance is rather unlike to other cats. Sphynxs sweat, their skin secrets oils to nourish the non-existent coat, so they need daily wiping with cloth and frequent bathing. But bathing is not a problem - Sphynxs don’t mind it and it very easy to dry them. The ears need to be cleaned weekly.
Kitten price: $500.00 - $1000.00
