Swedish Vallhund
The Swedish Vallhund is a thoroughly sound animal willing and able to do its work of herding and equally adaptable and eager to be a family companion.
History: The Swedish Vallhund closely resembles the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. It may have been transported by the Vikings to Britain or spurned from imported Pembroke Welsh Cori brought to Sweden. Although his color is drabber and lacks the Corgi zing, he is no less a utility dog. The Vallhund, meaning herding dog, is a canine of many talents such as a cattle drover, watchdog, ratter and versatile farmland. He is a more and more common site at European exhibitions.
Appearance: This is a solid dog with strong, substantial bone and a solidly built, muscular body. The muzzle is long and parallel to the top of the skull. The legs are powerful with short oval feet and round pads. A well-defined mask is highly desirable, with lighter hair around the eyes, muzzle, and under the throat. The ears of the Swedish Vallhund are stiff and pricked and lined with fine hair. Medium length hair, tight topcoat, and harsh. Undercoat is soft and dense. The Swedish Vallhund has fine hair along lines of ears. Hair should remain slightly longer on neck, topcoat frigid and coarse, while undercoat remains soft and silky.
Size: Height: 12-16 inches (30-40 cm)
Weight: 25-35 pounds (11-15 kg)
Temperament: Temperament is a major quality of this dog. The breed is watchful, energetic, fearless, alert, intelligent, friendly, eager to please, adaptable, active and steady. Generally good with children, given the children are properly trained themselves to handle this breed. Very affectionate, loving and playful, this breed makes a great family companion. They will try to guard your home even if they too small for the situation. Wary of strangers, it should be properly socialized and trained when it is still young to avoid over-protective behavior as an adult. This breed makes a great companion and can be used for herding and ratting. They also make excellent show and obedience dogs.
Health: The Swedish Vallhund is normally a hardy, healthy animal requiring only routine veterinary care.
Life expectancy: About 12-14 years
Grooming: Moderate shedding, the Swedish Vallhund doesn’t require much grooming. Combing occasionally will suffice. Bathing only when necessary. Dry towel will remove any excess hair or dirt without bathing. Dry shampoo can also be used.
Puppy price: $1.200.00
