Burmese cat
History: The Burmese is a breed of domesticated cats descended from Wong Mau, who was found in Burma in 1930 by Dr. Joseph G. Thompson. She was brought to San Francisco, California, where she was bred with Siamese males. Selective breeding created the Burmese as a distinct breed which was first recognized in 1936 by the Cat Fanciers’ Association. American breeders also requested CFA recognition for lighter colored cats first as a separate breed called Malayan and then later as a dilute division of Burmese. The breed was recognised by the UK Governing Council of the Cat Fancy in 1952.
Appearance: The body is medium and compact in size with legs in proportion to the body. Their coats are very short, satin-like in texture, and generally require little grooming other than daily petting. The eyes are large, round and wide set. The eye color is usually yellow to gold. The ears are set well apart with a rounded dome between and are broad at the based with a rounded tip and are tilted slightly forward. The head is round with no flat planes. The muzzle is short and broad with a firmly rounded chin. The tail is straight which is medium in length. The Burmese Cats come in a variety of colors. These colors are champagne (chocolate), sable (brown), blue, and platinum (lilac).
Size: Weight – male: 20 lb (9 kg)
Temperament: The Burmese cat is an extremely friendly and affectionate creature and needs attention from human beings to be happy when kept in a domestic environment. The Burmese Cats are active, friendly and smart. The Burmese Cats may appear clumsy at times when they try to do things beyond their abilities. They are also very sensitive to their owner’s feelings. If the owner is likely to be out all day it is often a good idea to have two Burmese, as they can become bored very quickly with no one to play with.
Health: Burmese is a quite healthy breed. Burmese is more prone to developing cherry eye in comparison with most other cat breeds.
Life expectancy: over 15 years
Grooming: The Burmese Cats coat is relatively simple to maintain. Extra grooming is recommended. Check for clear eyes and noses, clean ears and healthy-looking coats.
Kitten price: ?250 - ?400
