Ibizan HoundThe Ibizan Hound, also called Podenco Ibicenco in Spanish or Ca Eivissenc in Catalan, is an agile, deer-like dog of the hound family. There are two hair types of the breed: smooth and wire. The more commonly seen type is the smooth. Some consider there to be a third type, long, but most consider the longhair to be a variation of the wire.
History: This breed is truly a living piece of history. The Ibizan Hound can trace its roots back to 4000 B.C. and indeed beyond. Mostly associated with the time of the Great Pharaohs, it is depicted on many friezes and the most notable icon being the Anubis.
Appearance: Lithe and racy, the Ibizan possesses a deerlike elegance combined with the power of a hunter. Strong, without appearing heavily muscled, the Ibizan is a hound of moderation. The Ibizan Hound should have a long, fine, flat head with a sharp muzzle. The nose is flesh coloured. The jaws should be strong and lean with a complete scissor bite. The eyes should be almond shaped and amber in colour.  The ears are large, pointed, and natural. The tail is long and slender. There are three varieties of Ibizan: smooth-haired, long-haired, and wire-haired. Colors are white & red, white & tan, or solid white or red.
Size: Height: 22-29 inches (56-74 cm)
Weight: 42-55 pounds (19-25 kg)
Temperament: They are a very affectionate breed, and are mortified when shouted at, the look in their eyes makes you wish you could take it all back. They are protective and somewhat independent. They will hold back watchfully with strangers. Once they decide the stranger means no harm, they will relax very quickly. It is a willful breed. They bore easily and require consistent training. They should be kept as members of the family. Respectful dogs, they love to be social.
Health: The Ibizan Hound is hardy and strong, but can have allergic reactions to drugs, including insecticides and flea powders. Some lines seem to be prone to seizures. The Ibizan Hound has a genetic propensity for Axonal Dystrophy, nerve and muscle disease.
Life expectancy: about 15 years
Grooming: The Ibizan Hound is easy to groom, in both the short or wirehaired varieties. The shorthaired coats can be groomed using a rubber-grooming mitt; the wirehaired coats will require brushing on occasion.
Puppy price: $ 1.000.00
