Greyhound
The Greyhound is a breed of dog used for hunting and racing. They are one of the fastest land mammals; their combination of long, powerful legs, deep chests and aerodynamic build allows them to reach speeds of up to 72 km/h (45 mph).
History: This very ancient breed is the fastest dog in the world. This is an ancient breed, believed to have descended from the Arabian Sloughi and brought to England by traders long before 900 AD. The Greyhound was used long ago for hunting deer and wild board.
Appearance: A sleek, contoured dog built for speed with a very deep chest and an extraordinarily flexible, curved spine. The head is long with a flat skull and slight stop. The jaws should be strong with a complete scissor bite. The eyes should be oval, preferably dark with a bright, intelligent look. The ears should be small, rose-shaped and finely textured. The tail is long, fine and tapering with a slight upward curve. Greyhounds have very short hair, which is easy to maintain. There are approximately thirty recognized color forms, of which variations of white, brindle, fawn, black, red and blue (grey) can appear uniquely or in combination.
Size: Height: Dogs 28-30 inches (71-76cm); bitches 27-28 inches (68-71cm)
Weight: Dogs 65-70 pounds (29-32kg); bitches 60-65 pounds (27-29kg)
Temperament: These dogs are calm and social indoors and can even be rather lazy. They are intelligent and sensitive dogs who can make ideal family pets if given the right owners! Greyhounds are often tolerant of children, especially if they have been raised with them. Being non-aggressive, a Greyhound will generally walk away from a worrisome child, rather than growl or snap. However, even the gentle Greyhound has its limits, and should not be subjected to continuous harassment. The Greyhound is an extremely graceful dog that is petite, making him an exceptional running companion. This breed does very well in a home environment, but can also do well in kennel life, although he does crave human attention and desperately wants to be part of the family.
Health: May be prone to bloat. It is better to feed them 2 or 3 small meals rather than one large one. They are sensitive to drugs, including insecticides.
Life expectancy: 10-12 years
Grooming: One of the easiest breeds to look after with regard to their coats. Simply comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, and dry shampoo only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder.
Puppy price: $ 500.00
